Frequently Asked Questions

  • A Digital Cinema Package (DCP) is the standard format used for digital cinema projection. If your film is screening in a commercial theater or most film festivals, you will typically need a DCP to ensure reliable playback on cinema projectors. If you are unsure what you need, share the venue or festival requirements and we will help confirm the correct delivery format.

  • We can work with a range of professional master files. In general, the best starting point is a high-quality master export (often ProRes 422 HQ or ProRes 4444 XQ) with the final picture locked, plus your final audio deliverables. If you tell us your editing software and what you can export, we will recommend the cleanest, most reliable option for cinema playback.

  • Yes. We deliver DCPs in 2K or 4K, depending on your needs and the screening requirements. If you are not sure which to choose, we can recommend the right option based on your master resolution.

  • Yes, we can create and deliver physical DCPs on hard drives that are ready to be sent to theaters. CRU drives are the standard hard drives theaters use to load DCPs onto their servers. It requires special formatting. We can purchase a CRU drive for you, properly format it, load in your DCP and deliver it to the theater.

  • Yes. We support both stereo and 5.1 surround sound DCPs. If you provide a 5.1 mix, we will confirm the channel configuration and ensure it is correctly set up for cinema playback.

  • Yes. If you provide subtitles or captions, we can format them to DCP standards and create a version file that plays properly with your DCP. If you are not sure what file type you have, send what you have and we will confirm what is needed.

  • If your project requires encryption, we can help you plan the right approach and next steps. Encryption and KDM workflows depend on the screening plan, the venues, and the access window, so we will confirm requirements before proceeding.

  • Typical turnaround is within three days after we receive all required assets and confirm specs. We can provide overnight rush delivery for an additional fee when available.

  • You can deliver assets to us either by secure download link or by shipping a hard drive. Most remote clients use an upload link for speed and convenience, but shipping a drive can be best for very large projects or limited internet bandwidth. We will recommend the easiest option for your project.

  • We run every DCP through a thorough 37-point QC verification to reduce the risk of playback surprises. This includes confirming the technical specs, checking picture and audio behavior, and verifying that the package is organized and ready to deliver to a theater or festival with confidence.

  • You receive the final DCP package plus clear instructions for delivery or ingestion. We also provide guidance on naming, organization, and any festival or theater-specific delivery requirements so you can hand off the package smoothly and on time.
